Say It Ain't So!

I have been hearing rumors of this for a while but have been blocking it out. There was even an article in the NY Times a while back. Unfortunately I can't ignore it any longer. Riso, the Japanese company that makes Gocco printers is discontinuing production. It became real for me when I saw announcements on more than one US Gocco supplier's website saying they weren't sure if they would have supplies beyond December. Think Ink, printaddictjapan and Wet Paint all say the same thing.

This is horrible. I went to Rugg Road Paper Company in Boston today and bought out almost all their bulbs and a bunch of ink. All I can do for now is stock up, and then hope for the best. There has been a public campaign to Save Gocco (where this great "save gocco" image comes from), and the discontinuation has been delayed, but now it seems more imminent.

In lieu of flowers or sympathy cards, please send Gocco supplies.

Oh no. I am so sorry for your (impending) loss. Maybe an onslaught of complaints will change their mind. I'm shocked some other company won't buy them out or take over production.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. I also want to check with the Paper Source to see if they have a deal to continue shipments for a while or something. It seems like they got a special deal to get the big machines and supplies after not having them for a while. We'll see...
